August 14

Holy cow, it's been raining a lot today all day.  Didn't go outside much.  Sadly, the rain isn't helping cool things off that much either.  It's still kind of muggy and uncomfortable when we open the windows.

August 10th

Today is quite nice, low humidity and temperature below 80.  The storms we had yesterday cleared the air.

August 4th

Last night's rain storms cleared the air and this morning's temperatures were quite agreeable.  I enjoyed the distant whisper of fall breathed by a breeze that came off the water from the Southeast.

August 3rd

This morning's weather was quite agreeable.  I wonder what it is like outside right now.

August 2nd

The weather seems agreeable today though I would prefer it if it were a bit cooler.  Perhaps tomorrow.

A bit more minimalist than earlier efforts.  Nice way to kick off the weekend.

Of course Tom picked one that's much more attractive than the one I picked.  I must be patient and let the man curate.

I'm a fan of WGN meteorologist Tom Skilling.  Fascinating, hyper-detailed weather reports that I watch even though I don't live anywhere near Chicago.  Thank you modern technology.  I recently discovered his page on that social network everyone's all hepped up about.  He posts weather maps that I find mesmerising even when I don't know what data they're trying to illustrate.  I will steal appropriate some good ones and put them here.  Why not?

Today's Spam

The page has been getting a fascinating new form of spam lately. Spammers are generating random passages of gibberish interspersed with links to whatever sites they're trying to pimp. What interests me is the nature of the gibberish – it reads almost like a conceptual cut-up style piece. Below is one example that popped up in my inbox today (with the links removed of course). I think it’s awfully nice of the spammers to provide me with free content, don’t you? iabaratti, like the majority of men about the excursion, driven for you to San Felipe with regards to 230 mile after mile (354 km's) to the south with the national boundaries city of Tijuana all over (link removed) through HillcrestIn stated within a quick record e-mailed towards the Linked MediaDALVAY BY-THE-SEA, Prince Edward Area (AP) Prince Bill enjoyed showing his or her army heli-copter instruction with his first-ever h2o landing Saturday to the (link removed) pleasure involving nervous throngs in Canada, exactl

Rehearsal

I am notoriously bad at small talk. I have a business outing tonight that requires small talk. What do I do? I go to a co-worker who understands how bad I am at small talk and we go over topics. Me: “The weather’s a good place to start right?” Co-Worker: “Of course, especially now when it’s a news story.” Me: “Yeah, but I don’t want to go too far with that because then it could turn into a whole global warming thing and then it could go political and that’s awful.” CW: “It won’t go that way” Me: “I don’t know, I’m worried….” CW: “You could talk about sports then. “ Me: “Yeah, I watch enough ballgames I guess….” CW: “Derek Jeter’s 3000th hit, the guy that got the ball, should he have sold it or did he do the right thing?” Me: “That could go political” CW: “What?” Me: “There was a whole thing about the guy having to pay taxes on the gifts and then people start talking about taxes and then the debt ceiling and there’s no right answer there in a mixed crowd where you

So my mommy was watchin' the TV and it wasn't the usual shows she watches with those guys dressed up like doctors that she turns off when I come in the room because they're talking about naughty things nahahahaha and she thinks I can't understand but I do because of what Emma told me at school nahahahahaha and it's some people sitting around tables and they're wearing suits and then and then and then and then this guy is talking to this really old looking other guy who looks sad but mad and a little scary like that bad guy from that movie and and then and then and then and then they're talking and there's words on the screen but they're moving too fast but I think they're not about what that guy is talking about and then and then, uh, and then, uh, and then, uh, they keep talking and I'm like "mom it's boring why can't I watch a show" and mom's like "go play with your video game" and then I'm like "mom

Now What?

There are stories here.  Photos.  Appropriated items.  Rip offs.  Bad writing.  The occasional flash of something approaching creativity.  I haven't done anything in a while because I haven't had the time or the knowledge or the ability or a feeling that it was even necessary anymore.  But it's summertime, so why not? I was riding the bus the other day, well, actually it was a month or more ago.  A group of Staten Island's finest youth were on board having come from the auto show at the Jacob Javits center.  We were heading down the West Side Highway toward the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel when one of the bright stars piped up: "Yo, is dis lowah Manhattan?" "Uh, yeah, I think so" said his bro. "Yo, yeah, you know, when they rebuild the towahs, you know, they gotta put a missile defense system in to shoot down the planes when they come after it again you know?  They gottah!" "Stupid, then the plane just falls down in the street!&qu

Projects

Yes, content has fallen off the cliff here.  Nobody reads blogs anymore anyway do they?   My time is occupied by other things - my responsibilities have increased at work (but oddly my salary has not thanks to Corporate America's "you be grateful you still have a job" approach that does wonders for profits and stock prices and not much for the average working schmuck, but I digress).  On the more interesting side of things I'm working on two projects, one is a short story that has a beginning and an end already but one event in the middle is a sticking point and the whole thing kinda hinges on that so it may fall apart.  Then again, that thing is a Christmas-related story and since the holidays have passed I guess I have 11 months to finish it.  Making up something from scratch is a much bigger pain in the ass than writing memoir-type stuff or slightly exaggerating and fictionalizing actual events I have witnessed which is why so many people only write based on their
