Stranded

Looks like today will feature some forced relaxation.

LBI was hit by a Nor'easter last night, the 60 mph plus winds woke us up at 3am as outdoor furniture danced around the deck and the windows rattled like an airline in turbulence. We decided to try to leave at noon today figuring the traffic would be minimal and the weather not conducive to, well, anything.

Anything including travel as it turns out.

The Rte 72 bridge is closed until further notice due to high winds and a disabled truck. Fortunately we were able to u-turn out of the traffic line and come back to the house. So here we sit, wind howling, waves crashing up to the benches bordering the street by the ocean and not a whole lot to do.

Ah well, at least we have the house as long as we need it (especially since nobody can get here even if they rented it next). And the power is still on and we have leftover food. I think we'll survive. Sure beats work, that's for sure.

Not a bad place to be stuck. Bet the ceiling fan was turning a little faster last night.

Hope you took some great pictures of the BIG waves. With all this extra free time did you get time to stare at the ceiling fan?

The fan almost came off the cieling. It was spinning much faster than normal and rocking left to right on top of that. Or right to left. I'm not sure which.

I did take a few pictures of the big waves before the camera battery went but the rain was sheeting onto the lens so I don't know if they'll look like anything when they're blown up onto the PC screen

This is a Sweetmeal Digestive Biscuit . It is the finest cracker I have ever eaten. I love it with either a bit of mild blue cheese (which unfortunately for me they only identify as "blue mould cheese" on the buffet) or on its own. It is delicious, and I will be harassing my nephew who is currently in the UK for the summer to bring some back for me as I don't think they're easily found in the US. What else have I been eating? Well, finally had some reindeer filet last night. Looks like beef, is tender like filet mignon but has a slightly stronger beefy flavor. Still, if I told you it was cow you'd probably believe it. The difference is subtle. It was served with a "potato cake", really scalloped and gratined potatoes formed into a square and a berry (forgot which one) sauce. Anniversary Day

Happy anniversary to my lovely wife. I like to think I've given her four of the happiest years of her life. Of course we were married on this date in 1990 so you can do the math on that one. But seriously folks....I'm very, very lucky to have her. I hope she's having as much fun as I am.
